post #9- newsstand sales of major fashion publications' September Issues down from last year

Fashion insiders and economists alike predicted an increase in sales for major publications' highly-anticipated September Issue from last year. The recovering economy, coupled with the mags' choices for cover girls should have been enough. However, statistics show that Vogue, InStyle and Elle, among others have seen a downturn of as much as 14%.

website

So I had my very first dinner party this past weekend with my spicy Italian friend Aryana, and all of my new friends were so sweet and supportive in my interior design ventures that I thought it was time to create a website. So far, my company is entitled simply "Caitlin Herring Designs," and I can't decide if I like my name enough to make a whole company out of it. We'll see, I suppose. If anyone needs their apartment decorated and you're on a budget--I'm your girl. Enjoy it.

post #8- new show formats- YSL, Chanel, DVF

The Chanel Contemporary Art Container

Ever since Yves Saint Laurent showed their Fall/Winter '08 Men's Collection via LCD screen, multimedia formats have been the new wave of fashion media. Following in the brand's footsteps, Diane von Furstenberg launched a new addition to her website dvf.com by highlighting the work of the French painter, Francois-Marie Banier. Additionally, Chanel's multimedia outlet, chanel-mobileart.com features the Chanel Contemporary Art Container, designed by architect Zaha Hadid and modeled after the iconic "Quilted Bag." Lastly, as we all know, Christopher Bailey's most recent Burberry Prorsum show featured a live stream along with the option for consumers and industry greats alike to purchase the actual collection and receive the clothes 6-8 weeks later. This is truly a first in the fashion world, and I suppose we will have to wait to see if it catches on.

post #7- trunk shows- Kleinfeld Bridal

Dress by Carolina Herrera, Courtesy of Style.com.

At the tender age of 21 and 2 months, one of my best friends is engaged to be married. Because of this, for the past several months I have turned some of my attention toward all things bridal, and no retailer knows more about bridal fashion than Kleinfeld's here in Manhattan. Furthermore, it also seems that few retailers engage in trunk shows as frequently as this bridal bonanza. According to the company's website, upcoming trunk shows include such top-tier designers as Monique Lhuillier, Henry Roth & Carolina Herrera. I am confident that these shows will be a successful venture for Kleinfeld's, as this format has worked for them many times in the past.

Talk about an interesting venue for your fashion show! Fendi's show on the Great Wall of China is truly one of the most innovative shows I've seen.

post #5- current color trends- bright orange

Ohne Titel, S/S 2011

Marc by Marc Jacobs, S/S 2011

All over the S/S 2011 runways earlier this year, trend spotters identified a look not defined by silhouette or fabric choice, but by lip color. At shows such as Marc by Marc Jacobs and Ohne Titel (among others), a bright orange lip replaced the classic red that we have seen for the past few seasons. As the economy seems to be picking up ever-so-slightly and the industry is beginning to bounce back, designers are shying away from sad, moody colors and returning to the bright, bold hues we once loved. post #4- key color for fall 2011

From Ferragamo to Burberry Prorsum, Gucci to DSquared, Fashion Week Spring 2011 seemed to be littered with jewel tones, specifically sapphire. Featured in my collage is a color story from StyleSight forecasting one key color family for Fall 2011 entitled, "Magic and Mystery." These blues happen to be some of my favorite colors and I am so excited to see them all over the runway, along with beautifully bright oranges and yellows and truly lovely, ethereal neutrals. Featured in the collage are looks from the Spring 2011 collections of (from top left moving clockwise) DSquared, Gucci, Burberry Prorsum, Salvatore Ferragamo, Marni, Fendi & Diane von Furstenburg.

post #3- new york city street fashion

Professor Glenn Sokoli, Fashion Institute of Technology Photography Dept.
I chose to photograph Professor Sokoli because he was wearing this amazing military-inspired blazer with a matching vest. Normally, I'm not into the matching vest bit, but he pulled the look off beautifully. Paired with his gorgeous gingham button-down, dark jeans and great leather boots, this jacket is one huge fall trend personified.

The following is a video put together by StyleSight during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Fall 2010.

post #2- key item for fall 2011

According to the Doneger Group, one important trend for the Fall of 2011 will be "glistening knits." For this reason, I chose J.Crew's Metallic Beach Cardigan as one key item for that season. It is available in both gold and silver and was originally priced at $128.

more like nightmare on 34th street at the regal cinema...

I saw "Nightmare on Elm Street" (hence the post title-super clever right?) last week. Totally lame. The whole premise that Freddy kills them one by one in their sleep was alright I guess but those movies used to scare the shit out of me when I was like 4. I suppose one could argue that my age change and maturity or whatever plays a big factor, but I refuse to believe that those movies were that un-scary the first time around. Um, not to mention Johnny Depp wasn't in this one. Overall, I didn't have to cover my eyes once because of how lame it was. (I always have to cover my eyes during the scary parts of actual scary movies-it makes me feel safe). So much hype, so little follow through. Enjoy it. (But you won't)

chipotle blunder

Ok, so this one's going to be a human interest piece of sorts. I'm not sure if all Chipotles are created equal, but my local Chipotle on 26th & 7th Ave. is set up as follows: from front to back, it's one long horizontal restaurant that probably seats 30, window-row of tables with 2 high chairs each-assembly line where you order and pay-drinks at the polar opposite end of the entrance. (You're welcome for the stellar logistics description). So there's this long line of high tables that are so close together you have to walk to the end of the entire line and go around to sit on the other side of your table. Now I thought it was common knowledge, no matter how crowded the restaurant, if there is a person sitting alone on one side of these tiny round tables, it is NOT kosher to join them, whether you ask or not. They're really small tables that are definitely reserved for people who know each other. Here are your options: eat standing up at the bar against the window or take it to go. That's it. Don't share a dollhouse-sized steel table with someone who is so creeped out that your burrito bowls can't fit without touching that he or she ends up bowing out early. I actually saw a guy nudge a girl's food himself so that his could fit the other day. Like, don't touch my food. I don't know you, nor do I want to have an unbelievably awkward lunch with you. In conclusion, until Chipotle decides to expand their seating arrangement to something slightly less, well...intimate, singles beware of the elusive (yet not so elusive) stranger danger table sharer. Enjoy it.

serious mind fuck

This is like easily one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Its totally hypnotizing and kind of has a lullaby effect. I also feel like most people won't feel like its as cool as I think it is, but I honestly don't give a shit. Its my new extracurricular activity. Enjoy it.

devastatingly stylish

I really don't have many words for how amazing I think this woman's online interior decorating mag is so I'll keep it simple and let her work speak for itself. My good friend Kathryn worked for the creator and editor of "LONNY Magzine" last summer and I am in awe of her talent. I am in the process of closing a deal on a new apartment and my mind is running with decorating ideas and this is absolutely a MAJOR source of inspiration. Enjoy it.

p.s.

Sorry for the hiatus, Amanda. It's just you're the only person who reads my blog baha.

in summation,

In case you missed this week's episode of "Glee.": weight issues. sexual frustration. unrequited love. exactly zero minutes of Rachel singing solo (weird). lots of emotional music. some crying (mostly from Kurt). the other blonde chick (Quinn being the primary blonde chick) delivering her weekly perfectly written one-liners. some football chitchat. exactly zero seconds of airtime for Emma. Kristin Chenowith (ahh). Also, what happened to Ken Tanaka? more singing. not enough Artie. lots of Mercedes. pretty standard. Enjoy it.
